Chelsea FC travel to White Hart Lane to face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday as the English Premier League champions aim to get their season back on track. Chelsea won against Norwich last weekend after three consecutive losses in their previous league fixtures.
While the Blues sit on the fifteenth position with fourteen points, Spurs are ten points and ten places ahead in the league standings. With both clubs playing in the midweek, Chelsea will have the opportunity to take advantage of Spurs’ fatigue as Pochettino’s side played on Thursday while the visitors travelled to Israel on Tuesday.
Team News
Alex Pritchard and Nacer Chadli are injured for the hosts, while Dele Alli is suspended. Erik Lamela has also been listed as a doubt ahead of the tie. Chelsea will be without their captain John Terry after the Englishman picked up an ankle injury during the midweek fixture. Thibaut Courtois and Falcao are the long-term injury concerns. While Ramires and Cesc Fabregas are also recovering from slight knocks, both are expected to pass their late fitness tests.
Tottenham Hotspur Possible Starting Lineup: Hugo Lloris, Kyle Walker, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Danny Rose, Mousa Dembele, Eric Dier, Erik Lamela, Christian Eriksen, Son Heung-Min, Harry Kane.
Chelsea Possible Starting Lineup: Asmir Begovic, Branislav Ivanovic, Kurt Zouma, Gary Cahill, Cesar Azpilicueta, Nemanja Matic, Cesc Fabregas, Willian, Eden Hazard, Pedro, Diego Costa.
Thoughts From Both Camps
“It’s too early to say if this will be a special season, but it’s true the feeling is very good from the beginning of the season. The way that we play, from last season, we have improved a lot. I am very happy here at Tottenham. I enjoy it a lot. I find the people and the chairman have a very good philosophy.”
– Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham Hotspur.
“When I watch them play, it is not a surprise for me. If they said that they were fighting for the title, I would not laugh. I would accept it, because the team is very good, the manager is very good, the players are good. Good stability, playing well, a very, very good team.
I can imagine, with the stability they are showing, that sooner or later – I think sooner – they will be there, winning trophies or in a Champions League position, for sure.”
– Jose Mourinho, Chelsea FC.
Contributor’s Pick
According to Head-2-Head statistics, Tottenham have won only one of their last six meetings with Chelsea, but the home side are undefeated in their last twelve Premier League games. On current form, Spurs are likely to win by a 2-1 scoreline.
