Southampton vs Liverpool – Liverpool travel to St. Mary’s Stadium on 11th January, Wednesday to face Southampton in the first leg of the League Cup semi-finals.

Liverpool defeated Burton Albion, Derby County, Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United in the earlier rounds of the League Cup while Southampton had a tougher road to the last four as they had to win against Crystal Palace, Sunderland and Arsenal en route to the semi-finals.

Liverpool’s draw at Plymouth in the 4th round of the FA Cup this past weekend has raised questions about the Kop’s ability to last the distance and win consistently in an intense season.

Charlie Austin, Sofiane Boufal, Jake Hesketh, Alex McCarthy, Matt Targett and Jeremy Pied are sidelined through injuries for Southampton while Jose Fonte, who handed in a transfer request earlier this month is unlikely to feature.

Liverpool will be without Danny Ings, Jordan Henderson, Philippe Coutinho, Joel Matip all of whom are injury concerns. Sadio Mane misses out as he is on international duty.
