Norwich City hosts Manchester United at Carrow Road on 7th May, Saturday as Louis Van Gaal’s side aims to close the gap with Arsenal who travel to Etihad Stadium on Sunday. Both clubs are in dire need of three points as they look to achieve their goals from the domestic campaign – Manchester United trying to finish in the top four while Norwich City strives for survival in the top flight.
Manchester United are on the fifth position in the English Premier League table with sixty four points, only three points behind Arsenal. Norwich City are currently eighteenth with thirty one points from thirty five matches, but with Newcastle United and Sunderland only two and one points ahead of them respectively, the Canaries have a slight chance of staying up in the Premiership.
Manchester United played a 1-1 draw against Leicester City last weekend while Norwich lost 1-0 to Arsenal.
Team News
Alexander Tettey, Tim Klose and Andre Wisdom are sidelined through injuries for Norwich City while Ryan Bennett is doubtful.
Manchester United will be without the injured Bastian Schweinsteiger, Adnan Janujaz, Will Keane, Phil Jones, Luke Shaw and the suspended Marouane Fellaini.
Norwich City Possible Starting Lineup: John Ruddy, Ivo Pinto, Russell Martin, Sebastien Bassong, Martin Olsson, Nathan Redmond, Gary O’Neil, Jonny Howson, Robbie Brady, Wes Hoolahan, Dieumerci Mbokani.
Manchester United Possible Starting Lineup: David de Gea, Antonio Valencia, Chris Smalling, Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian, Morgan Schneiderlin, Jesse Lingard, Wayne Rooney, Ander Herrera, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford.
Thoughts From Both Camps
“It comes no bigger than this, it really is crunch time now. There is no room for excuses, we’ve got to go out and do the job. The players know exactly where we are. They gave it their best efforts against Arsenal, and I expect exactly the same this weekend.”
– Alex Neil, Norwich City.
“We have to win our matches because otherwise we cannot be in the first four – that’s the pressure that we have. We have to fight until the end, and then we have still a title [the FA Cup] to win.
We have to assess the tiredness of the players because there’s an overload of matches, so maybe I have to rotate. Every week you have something that you don’t like, but I think we can manage.”
– Louis van Gaal, Manchester United.
