Will Spurs Make An Improved Offer For Saido Berahino?

Tottenham Hotspur are aiming to add another attacking player before the summer transfer window closes at the end of August. Mauricio Pochettino spoke at length about Tottenham’s tactical system and mixed start to the season, and according to The Guardian, will look to bring in a forward to White Hart Lane.

Tottenham have already had a £18m bid rejected by West Bromwich Albion for Saido Berahino and are desperate to add strikers, especially after Roberto Soldado’s return to La Liga.

“It’s obvious we need to add some more in our offensive position. We identify our targets and the chairman is working very hard to bring new players in this position.”

Spurs have Emmanuel Adebayor and Aaron Lennon as offensive options, but both have fallen out of favour with Pocchetino due to their inconsistency and inability to understand the Spurs manager’s system. Pocchetino also explained how it wasn’t the offense which dropped points last season and the need for the Spurs players to respond positively this season.

“People will speak about how we need offensive players but we need to be more consistent because we conceded a lot of goals last season. It wasn’t our problem to score, it was conceding goals, and we need to improve that this season.”

Tottenham have completed the signing of 21-year-old Clinton N’Jie from Lyon for a £10m transfer fee and the youngster is comfortable as a lone striker as well as on the wings. Although Harry Kane carried Spurs for most parts of last season and is expected to work his magic in front of the goal again, Spurs are likely to return with an improved offer for Berahino, which might test West Brom’s resolve.

Should Spurs manage to land Berahino or target any other forward, the next few days are bound to be interesting for the Tottenham Hotspur fans.
