Teams Will Be Looking For Transfer Boost This January

Posted on by SoccerPunter

The January transfer window always comes around, and everyone expects their team to do some sort of business. Even though they will have done a lot of work in the summer, the winter window is often seen as the time to correct any recruitment errors, fill gaps, and give the team a timely boost as they press ahead with the rest of the campaign.

Take Manchester United, for example. The general feeling was that they enjoyed an excellent summer where transfers were concerned. They brought in the likes of Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo. You expected these players to take United on to the next level. But, fast forward to the present day, and there has been a change of manager, and the team has been seriously underperforming.

So, in the case of Manchester United, they look set to do business out and business in, if possible, because they need to get back in the hunt for the top four to secure Champions League football next season. They’ve brought a manager who they believe will help them achieve this, and now it’s about getting the players to suit his famed high pressing style, who can give them a boost that will ultimately see them climb the table.

Newcastle United have recently changed ownership at the other end of the Premier League. As a result, they have an embarrassment of riches, but they also have a relegation battle on their plate. There’s a genuine prospect that they could be relegated if they don’t somehow start picking points up. And, the transfer window will ultimately be what could save them from the drop.

This concern is not shared by fans but bookmakers as well, especially recently launched sites looking to increase their audience, including the likes of PartyCasino, which is starting to promote its’ new PartySports brand. This position The Magpies find themselves is ideal for generating genuine interest in the future of the club and bookmakers have the perfect opportunity to offer markets on various aspects of the situation, like potential January signings and their impact on the club’s chances of staying in the Premier League.

Newcastle’s saving grace could ultimately be that their spending power, albeit limited by profit and sustainability regulations, is unlimited. They may be a team fighting to keep their head above water. Still, at the time of writing, they have recruited Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid for twelve million, and Chris Wood, from relegation rivals Burnley, for twenty-five million after triggering his release clause.

Newcastle, their new ownership group, Eddie Howe and the supporters will be hoping by adding proven quality, primarily with Premier League experience, that this will immediately see their fortunes change. However, it’s worth noting even with Trippier in the team, they did lose to Cambridge in the FA Cup recently.

While we have used two, whats some will describe as extreme examples, every club in world football who will be active in the January transfer window will be doing business because they believe it will enable them to reach their targets.

For some, it will work out, as we have seen with many January transfers over the years, such as when Bruno Fernandes joined Manchester United in 2020. But, there is also the chance that a deal can go the other way, like when Fernando Torres swapped Anfield for Stamford Bridge in 2011.
