Manchester City will host Hull City at the Etihad on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 in the quarter-final of the League Cup. While Manchester City put up a professional performance in a 3-1 win against Southampton claiming the top position in the English Premier League standings, Hull City surrendered their top spot in the Championship rankings this past weekend, having lost 2-0 to Derby County.
Team News
Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero limped off the pitch on Saturday and is extremely unlikely to play a role in Tuesday’s fixture. David Silva and Wilfried Bony returned to fray with appearances off the bench. Joe Hart, Eliaquim Mangala and Samir Nasri are all out with hamstring problems, while Vincent Kompany (calf) and Pablo Zabaleta (knee) are sidelined as well.
Hull City could have Robert Snodgrass featuring as he returns from a knee injury. Andrew Robertson will return from his suspension but Michael Dawson has been ruled out
Thoughts From Both Camps
“You see that we are in a very good season, but in a week we lost against Liverpool and lost against Juventus and maybe all of you were talking about the crisis. But we continue at the top of the table and are involved in the two competitions that we are playing so far.
The way we continue in the future is very difficult to know. If you have all the whole squad and you are lucky not to have injuries during the year, and you have a great performance of the players, maybe you can do it.”
– Manuel Pellegrini, Manchester City.
“It is frustrating but it’s the first time we have lost in a long while. We need to put things into perspective. And we need to go again on Tuesday against Manchester City because it will be a big game in terms of how we react.
It won’t be the most important match for our season, but if you go there with your heads down you could be on the other end of a pasting. Having been part of an FA Cup final team I know how important these competitions are to the fans. We will be going there with the aim to upset the odds.”
– Steve Bruce, Hull City.
Contributor’s Pick
According to Head-2-Head statistics, Manchester City have won 50% of its encounters with Hull City and lost only 13%. Hull City, who are having a good season in the Championship and have already caused a few upsets in the League Cup, will make Manchester City strive hard for a victory, but Manuel Pellegrini’s side is likely to win on current form.
