Manchester City Agrees Fee For Raheem Sterling

Manchester City have agreed a fee for Raheem Sterling with Liverpool. The Manchester-based club will pay the Merseyside club an initial fee of £44m, with a potential £5m as add-ons.

The winger is supposed to participate in a medical and sign the dotted line over the next couple of days. According to British media, Raheem Sterling has already agreed personal terms, which will see the Englishman earning £200,000 per week. Sterling stayed behind as the Liverpool squad left for their pre-season tour of Bangkok.

Earlier in the year, reports had broken out that Sterling had refused to pen a new deal after turning down a contract worth £100,000 per week. The proverbial last straw of the relationship between the club and the player broke when Raheem Sterling expressed his desire to leave the Merseyside this summer.

The 20-year-old made 52 appearances for Liverpool last season and will leave the club having made 129 appearances and scoring 23 goals. One of the better prospects to come out of Liverpool’s youth academy in the recent years, Sterling’s departure will leave Brendan Rodger’s side weakened, who struggled to cope with Suarez’s departure last season. The arrival of Roberto Firmino should provide Rodgers with options, but Liverpool need to spend wisely ahead of next season.

Manuel Pellegrini is aiming to rebuild the Manchester City squad after a second-place finish behind Chelsea in 2014/15 and yet another disappointing early exit from UEFA Champions League. Raheem Sterling is the first step towards strengthening the squad as well as meet the required quota of domestic players in Premier League.

Raheem Sterling’s purchase should offer Manchester City a significant upgrade on the flanks. Whether Manchester City can follow this up with some more signing would eventually decide their success next season.
