Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are going to be going up against Monterrey in Qatar shortly. Klopp has released a statement, saying that he is not the right person at all to be addressing concerns regarding Qatar’s human rights. Liverpool are going to be in the country where they are going to be playing in the semi-final. There have been various concerns expressed about the country and the fact that they are even hosting the event. Some believe that their stance on homosexuality and even the rights for immigrant workers needs to change.
Organisers
Organisers are the ones who have to be thinking about these types of things, and not athletes, Klopp says. The Reds came away with the trophy for the Champion’s League and this helped them to qualify for the tournament. It’s going to be held at the international stadium in Khalifa and the same stadium is going to be hosting the World Cup in the year 2022. Of course, if you want to try and put money on who you think is going to win then you can look into football betting on NetBet.
Qatar and Controversy
The International Trades Union released a post in 2013, saying that 1200 workers from India and Nepal died in various construction projects that related to the World Cup. This included any non-football schemes. The ITUC have stated that if the deaths carry on at this rate then the total toll may get as high as 4,000. The problem is that the complaints regarding the improvements to worker’s rights have actually been dropped. Qatar have also come out to say that the deaths cannot be linked to the World Cup.
Klopp’s Opinion
Klopp has come out to say that he has an opinion on football, but at the end of the day, this is a real issue and there needs to be some serious talking done to make sure that everything goes to plan. Klopp seems to think that the answers need to come from those who actually know more about the situation and who are also able to support their opinion. Klopp’s job is to be as influential as possible but at the end of the day, he doesn’t work in politics at all. Anything he could hope to say certainly wouldn’t help. The only thing that he would do is create more headlines, whether they are negative or positive.
Klopp’s opinion is that everyone needs to be treated equally and that more needs to be done. He doesn’t want to go on the record though because he doesn’t have time to make judgements about other people. The only thing that he does have time for is training. A lot of people are working to try and help the country change the regulations that are in place right now so that more is done to safeguard those who are losing their lives when in reality, sometimes it could be prevented.
