Genoa hosts AS Roma at Stadio Luigi Ferraris on 2nd May, Monday in a tough Serie A battle against a side which is competing to secure European qualification next season.
Genoa are on the twelfth position in league standings with forty three points courtesy their twelve wins. Roma are on the third position with seventy one points from their twenty wins, seven points ahead of the fourth-placed Internazionale and only two points behind Napoli.
Having already secured their stay in the top flight next season, Genoa lost 2-0 to Bologna in their previous match. AS Roma notched up a 1-0 win over Napoli which closed the gap with the Naples-based club.
Team News
Goran Pandev and Mattia Perin are sidelined through injuries for the hosts. AS Roma will be without the suspended Miralem Pjanic and the injured Alessandro Florenzi and Bogdan Labont. Kevin Strootman returns after a lengthy spell on the sidelined but Seydou Keita is doubtful with an ankle knock.
Genoa Possible Starting Lineup: Eugenio Lamanna, Ezequiel Munoz, Sebastien de Maio, Armando Izzo, Cristian Ansaldi, Luca Rigoni, Tomas Rincon, Blerim Dzemaili, Diego Laxalt, Leonardo Pavoletti, Suso.
AS Roma Possible Starting Lineup: Wojciech Szceszny, Maicon, Kostas Manolas, Antonio Rudiger, Lucas Digne, Radja Nainggolan, Kevin Strootman, Daniele De Rossi, Stephen El Shaarawy, Mohamed Salah, Diego Perotti.
Thoughts From Both Camps
“We have won many victories and a little ‘too many defeats. The cult of the tie is not our mentality. The search of the three points at times led us to exaggerate and make mistakes. But it’s part of our philosophy.”
– Gasperini, Genoa.
“Strootman will start. He’s ready and will show us what he can do. Pjanic is suspended, Florenzi will be probably out of action, Falqué and Ucan are also injured, while Keita is still a doubt.
Trosidis is not okay, Gyomber will travel alongside the rest of the team. Dzeko must remain calm, I’ve already said what I had to. I’ll use him if I’ll need him. He is the one who has to prove to be ready.”
– Luciano Spalletti, AS Roma.
Contributor’s Pick
According to Head-2-Head statistics, AS Roma has won five and lost only one of their previous six matches against Genoa. Although Genoa have won their last five home matches in the league, AS Roma are undefeated in their previous fourteen Serie A fixtures.
Although it should be a closely contested affair, on current form, AS Roma are likely to win with a 2-1 result in favor of the visitors being the most probable outcome.
