Arsenal Interested in Signing Nabil Fekir

Arsenal are in dire need of adding an attacking midfielder to their squad during the upcoming transfer window and have identified their top target. The Gunners are keen to make a move for former France international and current Real Betis star, Nabil Fekir.

Mikel Arteta knows he needs to boost Arsenal’s squad during the upcoming transfer window and one of the team’s biggest weaknesses right now is their depth in midfield, as they’ll lose Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard following the expiration of their deals. Plus, Granit Xhaka is close to joining AS Roma and Matteo Guendouzi is not likely to return to the Emirates Stadium. Thus, adding a creative threat in the middle of the pitch is an imperative task for the London-based outfit following another disappointing campaign in the 2020-21 season.

With that in mind, the name of Nabil Fekir has sneaked into the top of the club’s shortlist. The Frenchman played a key role for Los Verdiblancos in their impressive campaign during the 2020-21 La Liga season, as Betis clinched a spot in the UEFA Europa League with Fekir at the centre of it — the Frenchman tallied five goals and six assists in 33 league appearances. As if that wasn’t enough, Fekir also won the award for the Goal of the Season following his strike against Levante in the 28th round of the campaign.

The biggest problem regarding a potential transfer is the fact that Arsenal have not met Betis’ valuation for the 27-year-old playmaker. While Betis are open to listening to offers for any player as long as they’re substantial and benefitial for both the player and the club, it is believed that Arsenal have not made much of a financial effort to sign the playmaker, who was left out of France’s list for the European Championships.

Fekir has played just for two teams in his senior career, Lyon and Betis. He has racked up 12 goals and 12 assists across 71 appearances for the Liga club.
