Inter Milan have officially announced the departure of head coach Simone Inzaghi following their 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final on Saturday.
In a farewell message published on the club’s website Tuesday, Inzaghi addressed fans directly:
“The time has come for me to say goodbye to this club after a run of four years during which I gave everything.”
Reports suggest that Saudi Pro League giants Al Hilal are attempting to sign Inzaghi, offering a staggering salary in excess of €20 million ($22.74 million) per year.
Inzaghi led Inter to a Serie A title last season and also guided the team to the 2023 Champions League final, where they were narrowly beaten by Manchester City. His tenure at the club lasted exactly four years, with one season still remaining on his contract.
With the FIFA Club World Cup kicking off in the United States on June 14, Inter now face uncertainty over who will take charge. They’re scheduled to play Monterrey on June 17, a day before Al Hilal face Real Madrid.
Speculation is already swirling around potential successors, with former Spain international Cesc Fàbregas — who recently coached Como to a 10th-place Serie A finish — among the rumored candidates.
Inter concluded the current Serie A campaign in second place, finishing just one point behind champions Napoli. The club had been on course for a potential treble before being eliminated by AC Milan in the Italian Cup semifinals and losing to the same rivals in the Italian Super Cup final in January. Ultimately, Inter ended the season without silverware.
Inzaghi’s exit marks one of several managerial shakeups across top Italian clubs this summer, with Milan, Roma, Atalanta, and others also undergoing changes on the bench.
