Details have emerged on Tuesday regarding a potential move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez. Reports are stating he is ready for a Premier League move in the coming days.
Speculation regarding Saul’s future has been building all summer and it now appears to be nearing its conclusion. The 26-year-old Atletico Madrid midfielder has been linked with a host of clubs in the past, including Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United. However, reports on Tuesday detail how he is now nearing a move to either Chelsea or Manchester United.
The reports suggest a loan deal with a buy option is the current deal on the table. This will suit any club in a COVID-hit market, as they will be able to defer the majority of the cost until next summer. The same reports, as well as transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, have quoted how Saul has stated he is ‘ready for a Premier League move’.
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has been in the market for a central midfielder all summer. He would like Saul to compete with N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic for the two central midfielder slots in his preferred 3-4-2-1 formation. It now appears they have their eyes firmly set on the Spanish international.
However, Chelsea must compete with fellow Premier League side Manchester United. The Red Devils have been searching the market for another central midfielder option all summer themselves. Eduardo Camavinga of Rennes is also high on their list, should a move for Saul not materialise.
Saul came through the Atletico academy and made his first-team debut at the age of just 17. Since then, he has gone on to make 339 appearances across all competitions. In this time, he has scored 43 goals and provided 20 assists. Despite being a key component in Diego Simeone’s title-winning side in La Liga last season, the club will not stand in the way of his desire to leave.
