Fiorentina vs Sevilla – UEFA Europa League – Preview

Sevilla travel to Italy to face Fiorentina, in a bid to reach the finals of the UEFA Europa League. The Spanish side, who have a three-goal lead going into the second leg of the semi-final tie are the favourites to progress, after the Italian side had an underwhelming display in their previous encounter.

Team News & Formation

For the hosts, Giuseppe Rossi, Khouma Babacar, Juan Vargas and Micah Richards are all sidelined through injury. Nico Pareja and Beto will be the absentees for Sevilla.

Fiorentina prefer a 4-3-3 and Nenad Tomovic is expected to replace Richards at right back. He joins Marcos Alonso, Gonzalo Rodriguez and Stefan Savic in the defense. Matias Fernandez and Borja Valero will be on either side of David Pizarro in the midfield, while Joaquin and Mohammad Salah will start on the flanks, with Mario Gomez as the targetman.

Sevilla’s usual 4-2-3-1 formation includes Alexis Vidal, Ever Banega and Vitolo in the attacking band of midfielders with Kevin Gameiro in the striker’s role. Krychowiak and Stephen M’bia are the likely holding midfielders. Coke, Timothee Kolodziejczak, Daniel Carrico and Benoit Tremoulinas will form the backline for the Spanish side, who has Sergio Rico below the bars.

Fiorentina struggled to get going in Spain. Although they might fare a little better in their home, it looks highly unlikely that the Italian club will be able to overcome the mammoth three-goal deficit. The second leg might end in a 2-2 draw for both sides, but the Spaniards will be progressing to the finals of the UEFA Europa League.
