Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid – International Champions Cup – Preview

The US leg of International Champions Cup heats up as Bayern Munich are set to take on Real Madrid at the Metlife Stadium in New York City on 3rd August, Wednesday.

Last season’s UEFA Champions League winners will face the Bundesliga champions as a part of their preparation for the upcoming season. While both clubs will be without a number of first-teamers owing to their involvement in the Euros, a crackling encounter is expected to occur in New York.

Both clubs lost their opening fixtures in the International Champions Cup, but bounced back in the succeeding matches – Bayern Munich annihilating AC Milan in a 4-1 win while Real Madrid defeated Chelsea 3-2 after racing to a three-goal lead in the first half.

While Bayern Munich are still adjusting to the tactical system of their new manager Carlo Ancelotti, Zinedine Zidane will hope to assimilate a few youngsters in his Real Madrid squad this season.

According to Head-2-Head statistics, both clubs have faced each other in twenty two competitive fixtures, with Real Madrid winning nine and losing eleven of those matches. The last time these two clubs met each other was in the 2013/14 UEFA Champions League when Bayern Munich were defeated 4-0 on aggregate by Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid.

It should be a closely contested affair, but Real Madrid are expected to win by a 2-1 scoreline.
