Aubameyang commits to a long-term contract at Arsenal

Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has signed a new three-year deal. There was speculation over a potential exit as he entered the final year of his football contract.

The new deal is worth £250,000-a-week and represents a major improvement on his £180,000-a-week wage.

“Signing for this special club was never in doubt,” Aubameyang said in a statement. “It’s thanks to our fans, my teammates, my family and everybody at this club that I feel like I belong here.

“I believe in Arsenal. We can achieve big things together. We have something exciting here and I believe the best is to come for Arsenal.”

It makes the 31-year-old player one of the highest earners at Arsenal alongside midfielder Mesut Ozil.

Aubameyang scored 22 goals in the English Premier league last season, just one goal behind Golden Boot winner Jamie Vardy from Leicester City.

Arsenal’s manager Arteta stressed the importance of Aubameyang’s influence in the team and he wanted to build the squad around the Gabon international after they won the FA Cup 2019-2020.
