Manchester City have been hit hard with injuries to their key players during the international break. The injuries to City’s senior players come at a crucial time as the Manchester-based club is set to embark on a hectic run of seven matches in three weeks once the international break ends.
Sergio Aguero suffered a hamstring injury during Argentina’s match against Ecuador, which has ruled the centre forward out of action for the next month at least. David Silva picked up an ankle injury soon after while playing against Luxembourg. A sprain in the internal lateral ligament of the right ankle has put the midfield maestro in a race to be fit for the Manchester derby on the last weekend of October.
The latest player whose fitness has concerned Manchester City is their captain Vincent Kompany. The Belgian has not appeared in City’s last five matches ever since he limped out of the club’s UEFA Champions League encounter against Juventus with a calf problem. Kompany came through during Belgium’s latest training session and is all set to start against Israel in Belgium’s final UEFA Euro 2016 qualifier.
The club has reportedly contacted the Belgian national team, expressing their concern regarding Kompany’s fitness. Should the central defender (who has repeatedly suffered calf muscle injuries in the last three seasons) get injured again, Kompany will look towards extended time out of the game. Manuel Pellegrini will hope the last day of the qualification round does not cause any more injuries to his players, so that Manchester City could field their best eleven in the upcoming matches.
