Who are the Favorites To Win Europe’s Five Top Leagues Next Season?

Posted on by SoccerPunter

The 2024/25 season has only just drawn to a close, but anticipation is already turning toward next term. At present, all eyes are on the FIFA Club World Cup, and there have certainly been plenty of talking points throughout that showdown in the United States. But when that particular competition draws to a close at MetLife Stadium on July 13th, the focus will be back on Europe’s top five leagues.

The 2025/26 campaigns won’t get underway until August, but even so, the bookies are already outlining their frontrunners for the league titles. So, who do they think will reign supreme? Let’s take a look.

Liverpool

Liverpool surprised everyone as they romped to a second Premier League title in five years last season, defying the doubters who said they would struggle following the departure of Jurgen Klopp. And following their triumphant campaign, online sportsbooks aren’t doubting them anymore. Thunderpick Sportsbook currently lists The Reds as a narrow 9/4 favorite to successfully defend their title next season, just ahead of Arsenal (5/2) and Manchester City (11/4).

Last season, Liverpool’s rebuilding job was in the dugout and on the training pitch as the club came to terms with new manager Arne Slot’s style of play. They passed that test with flying colors as they were crowned champions, but now the rebuild comes on the pitch.

Academy product Trent Alexander-Arnold has departed for Real Madrid after a near three-year stint, with Jeremie Frimpong being brought in from Bayer Leverkusen to replace the outgoing international. The Dutchman could be set to be joined by his former teammate at the BayArena as the Reds are heavily rumored to be completing a deal for the highly-rated Florian Wirtz in the coming weeks. Such exciting signings are why the bookies rate Liverpool so highly next season, but they will have a job on their hands if they are to keep both Arsenal and Manchester City at bay.

Real Madrid

Spanish giants Real Madrid had a disastrous campaign by their lofty standards last season. They were beaten no fewer than four times by archrivals Barcelona, defeats which handed La Liga, the Copa Del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup to the Blaugrana. Now, Los Blancos are looking to reclaim their throne, and the bookies make them a 10/11 favorite to win the Spanish league next season.

Real have a stacked squad already. Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, and Jude Bellingham make up one of the fiercest attacks on the continent, while the addition of Trent Alexander-Arnold adds another dimension to an already impressive side. Former midfielder Xabi Alonso has returned to the club as manager after an impressive run with Bayer Leverkusen, and if he can get his tactics across to his players in a prompt fashion, then there’s no reason to think that the title won’t be returning to the Bernabeu next May.

Inter Milan

Inter Milan looked on course to win a famous treble this season, following in the footsteps of Jose Mourinho’s iconic team of 15 years ago. But at the worst possible moment, things unraveled in disastrous fashion.

First, the Nerazzurri were dumped out of the Coppa Italia at the quarterfinal stage by cross-city rivals AC Milan. Then, they let the Scudetto slip through their fingers after a poor finish to the campaign, ultimately missing out to Antonio Conte’s Napoli on the final day of the season. But just as it seemed like things couldn’t get any worse, Inter were thumped 5-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in the most one-sided UEFA Champions League final in history.

Manager Simone Inzaghi has since left the San Siro, departing for the mega-money on offer in Saudi Arabia. He will be replaced by club legend Christian Chivu, who has shone in charge of Inter’s youth team. With the Romanian at the helm, the bookies make Inter the favorites to win Serie A next season, but Napoli will be aiming to prove that last season wasn’t a flash in the pan.

Bayern Munich

In 2024, Bayern Munich had the Bundesliga crown ripped away from them by Xabi Alonso’s ruthless Bayer Leverkusen. Die Werkself claimed the Meisterschale without losing a single game that year, something that their rivals from Bavaria have never managed to do. However, last season, Bayern struck back by reclaiming the title, and the bookies make them the overwhelming favorites to do the same again next season.

The Allianz Arena outfit has added to an already impressive squad by signing Jonathan Tah from the aforementioned Leverkusen. Their tactic of signing their Bundesliga rivals’ best players has worked a treat over the last two decades, and they will be hoping that it brings further success next year.

Paris Saint-Germain

Since Paris Saint-Germain was taken over by the Qatar Sports Investment Fund in 2011, they have been the favorites to win Ligue 1. Next season is no different, but following their maiden UEFA Champions League crown, they are bigger frontrunners than they have ever been before. Luis Enrique has built a stellar squad in the French capital, and their domestic dominance looks set to continue for years to come.
