Bayern Munich will be without Germany star Bastian Schweinsteiger for Wednesday’s German Cup (DFB Pokal) semi-final at Monchengladbach as he continues to recover from torn ankle ligaments.
“Basti will not be there,” confirmed Bayern spokesman Markus Hoerwick before the team left for Gladbach.
Schweinsteiger, 27, tore ankle ligaments in the quarter-final win over Stuttgart on February 8 and although he played 20 minutes in the 7-1 Bundesliga hammering of Hoffenheim a fortnight ago, he is still finding his fitness.
He missed last Tuesday’s 7-0 rout of FC Basel in the Champions League Round of 16 clash and also the 6-0 drubbing of Hertha Berlin in the capital last Saturday in the Bundesliga.
The Bavarians are hoping to have him back for Saturday’s German Bundesliga match in Munich against Hanover and then the Champions League quarter-final at Marseille next Wednesday.
Gladbach are chasing their third win over Bayern this season after beating Munich twice already this campaign in the German league.
