MATCH ANALYSIS

PSG v Djon

Down to the quarterfinal stage and all evidence points to 4-time defending champions PSG cruising into the semifinals with a comfortable home win.

This is a side that hasn't skipped a beat despite the absence of star strikers Neymar and Cavani, having followed up their impressive 2-0 away win over Manchester United in the Champions League with 3 consecutive league wins by a combined score of 9-1.

Though some might have expected them to struggle without their 2 world class veteran strikers, it's just allowed Kylian Mbappe to become the focal point of the attack and he's shined under the spotlight, scoring in each of the last 4 matches, while Julian Draxler and Angel Di Maria have taken full advantage of the increased playing time, both making major contributions to the recent winning run.

With a massive 17 point lead atop the Ligue 1 table and a game in hand over second place Lille, PSG have all but mathematically sewn up the league title already, so there's no reason not to use a strong squad here, then rest players on the weekend leading up to their Champions League second-leg against Manchester United.

Playing at home in the league they are a perfect 14-0-0, having outscored their visitors 51-5, so anything else but a comprehensive win here would certainly be a huge surprise against a Dijon side that should be more concerned with top flight survival than pulling off a massive upset here.

The visitors sit second from bottom in the Ligue 1 table, 4 points adrift of safety and are winless in 11 consecutive away league matches since winning their first 2 of the season, most recently losing 5 straight by a total score of 9-0.

Although they did muster up one good performance to beat St. Etienne in the round of 32 they owe a lot to the draw for reaching the quarterfinals of this competition, having only had to beat a couple of 4th tier sides to advance to this stage, and I just don't see them reversing an extremely lopsided head to head history that's seen PSG beat them 6 consecutive times by a combined score of 19-3.
